Questing Web, Conquering Education

Hello everybody,
I know I haven't written in a while. This is getting boring, I can see. I wanted to use this blog both as a portfolio for my Material and Tech Use course and for tips, ideas about education. But I guess I'm too lazy to do that.
Anyways, I was sick this past week, and I am not the best person to take care of herself either. So it was 'rough times' and I missed the class. What a joy.
As I collected all the data about this project from my friends, I knew it was going to be boring. Turns out, it wasn't that boring. Hallellujah once again.

So.. Webquest. As far as I understood, this is a great project for a student to work his/her creativity on and give a chance to do something about what she/he likes. The aim is to make a webquest page explaining "how to do" something basically. And our project was to evaluate one of these webquests with this rubrick.

Let's go.

I chose this webquest. Actually, there were more webquests (and probably better ones), but to be honest, I wanted to be done with it immediately. Finals are a week after and I am basically trembling. But I noted some good ones and will look at them.

My Evaluation For This Webquest;

  • Overall Aesthetics:

I think this is an important matter for any work in the world. Try to make it pretty folks, our eyes have seen enough. The page I'm evaluating had standard  aesthetics.

Overall Visual And Apparel

I would give 3 pts for this. It was nice and simple, clear, but not astonishing.

Navigation & Flow

The site had very clear navigation and it was easy-to-read. 4 pts.

Mechanical Aspects

There was nothing wrong technically. 2 pts.

  • Introduction

Motivational Effectiveness of Introduction

It has a brief introduction, but maybe too brief.
"
This webquest aims to raise awareness about advertising techniques and use them to creat a shoes advertisement."
and that's almost it.  1 pt.

Cognitive Effectiveness of the Introduction

Since it was too short, my point for this section is 0.

  • Task

Connection of Task to Standards

2 pts.

Cognitive Level of the Task

4 pts.

  • Process

Clarity of Process

0 pt.

Scaffolding of Process

0 pt.

Richness of Process

0 pt.

  • Resources

Relevance & Quantity of Resources

3 pts.

Quality of
Resources

3 pts.

Evaluation

4 pts.

Total Score: 26

You say wiki, I say.. (nothing that rhymes)

Well hello again.

So tired and tense these days, but still care about laughing the most. School is driving me crazy, my mind is constantly on everywhere where it's not supposed to be and we can say I'm having difficulties about putting my life together. Oh, lazy me. And enough about me. Let's get going.

So in this post, I'm gonna talk about our new project assigned by our teacher. It's called "Wikiing". Or I hope it is, because frankly, I LOVE saying Wikiing. Like the name "Viking" pronounced in Turkish.

Basically, it is creating an informative wiki page online. Im more concerned about it's educational approach and at this point, I can say a few things about that subject too.

When you write a wiki page you have to:

  • watch your language,
  • be proper
  • be neutral
  • be accurate on information
  • be well prepared
  • be well organized.

These skills are every parents' and teachers' wet dream to make a student gain. Because these are essential in life and work. Otherwise we woudln't work so hard on those. Or would we?

So this is the page of my wiki page.

It was introducing our favorite book. In my case, there is no favorite book, there ARE favorite books, but I chose the first one I saw on my Goodreads Profile. Which happens to be Five Quarters of the Orange.

Thanks for checking my blog and projects out.

Podcasting: another way of teaching

Last thursday our teacher talked about podcasting.
She gave us an assignment about podcasting. We ( as in me and my friend, Fırat) were to record a podcast and publish it on our blog. So here it is.

Our podcast
Our assignment:
Option 3: A story
In pairs, you are going to create a sound rich story and narrate it together. The story should begin as follows:
I thought it was going to be the best day of my life, but turned out to be the funniest. It was a perfect morning.  The weather was sunny and warm.  Then the telephone rang.

Fırat and I wrote a transcription of the story and found some sound effects through the internet. we then recorded it via my phone and uploaded it.

Reflection:
*What do you think about this project?
It was really fun to do. At first I thought it would be a burden, but we had a ot of fun doing it.

*Did you have any difficulties?
Finding and playing the sound effects at the right moment was somehow a challenge. Also I made a mistake while reading through the end.

*What kind of advantages does podcasting have for EFL learners?
I would say creativity and pronunciation. it also helps them to be more confident.

*Would you use it with your own students in the future?

I would definetly use it so they can progress.

Hi There

Hello and welcome. This is my new blog.
I should introduce myself.
My name is Hilal. I am surrently a student at Marmara University, studying  English Language Teaching (ELT for short). I am nineteen years old and I find almost anything worth interested in. But the first things on the list might be these:

1. Reading

2. Exploring

3. Watching

4. Crafting

In this blog, I aim to share a part of my life. This part being specifically the learning part, and almost everything about being a student.
I plan to use this is blog as a portfolio for my Technology and Material Use course as well.
I will keep you updated about what I learned.
